Our Research

At the Judy Dan Research and Treatment Centre, we are conducting a Level One, prospective, randomized, double blind, controlled research study in cooperation with McMaster University’s Program for Assessment of Technology in Health (PATH) and staff of the University Health Network (Toronto General Hospital).

The first arm of the study will evaluate the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in healing diabetic wounds and preventing amputations.

The second arm of the study will evaluate and develop optimum diagnostic and treatment protocols.

Additional studies are planned to evaluate new diagnostic equipment, research the biochemical factors involved in wound healing with hyperbaric oxygen therapy and investigate the newly discovered relationship between hyperbaric oxygen, stem cell release, and angiogenesis.

Knowledge gained about the role of oxygen in healing wounds and its effect on stem cell release and biochemical factors could have far reaching implications beyond diabetic wound care.
